We missed the peak colors, but enjoyed the visit anyway.
We had a great visit with Mike, Jenn and Caleb. We took a hayride, gathered pumpkins in the pumpkin patch, walked the soybean maze (less scary than the corn maze), and laughed and laughed together.
Inspired by Richard Proenneke’s documentary of his solitary life in the Alaska wilderness, I replaced the handle on one of my most prized hand-tools. While I took a few shortcuts — no tree was harvested in the process, and I used the electric drill, and I worked under artificial light in a cozy 65 degree basement workshop — I take much pride in my accomplishment. See below.  Thanks for the video, Jeff and Anna-Marie.

The first flakes were seen here yesterday afternoon. Nothing stuck, but it was a “chilly” reminder that winter approaches. Bob and Lyn enroute to Michigan for a short getaway drove through white-outs. Early (maybe earliest) lake effect snow in Buffalo NY was mentioned on yesterdays weather. Brrr.
I thought the grandsons would enjoy these elaborate versions of the “marble run”.

Just noticed that we’re becoming a food blog. Maybe we need a new hobby. . . . Think I’ll bake some bread today.
Tofu hoisin with baby bok choy — we added some of Trader Joe’s brown basmati rice. Very tasty
We had a great day. Drove to Pittsburgh and toured the Strip district. Had dinner (a great dinner) at Lidia’s Italy. Here are a few pictures.
