Green (Linux!) PC

Ran into an article on this yesterday — it sounds pretty cool. Zonbu is a tiny (ala Mac mini) pc with no harddisk. It’s available with a subscription for online storage and backup of your data plus automatic software updates. $99 plus $12.95 to $19.95 / mo. subscription (cancellable) depending on your storage needs.

See details at http://www.zonbu.com , and check out the demo video here.

Now this is really cool! I’m seriously considering getting one. The plus side: Obviously energy efficient, you can access any file you created (data, music, photos, etc.) from any computer that has internet access, and cost effectiveness. The down side: Not sure of how safe something like this can be from identity theft (and other forms of computer treachory), and incompatibility with several accessories which I already or thought about buying including but not limited to: web cams, scanners, Bluetooth, and all mp3 players except iPod and Creative Nomad Jukebox-based players.

Basically, I’d have to look into it. It sounds pretty cool, though.
