A Firefox tweak that seems to work
I stumbled onto this on the web. It seems to work (significantly speeds Firefox). To be honest, I’ve only had an hour or so using it — however, if it causes problems, it’s easily undone.

Hmmm. There seems to be little or no difference, but it was certainly painless to activate. Thanks, honey!

I agree with Aunt Martha. I didn’t notice any change, but don’t mind because it was very simple and only took a couple seconds. Oh well. It could be that my old 2003(ish) computer can’t handle much faster speeds without a good upgrade.
