Tobacco NO; Marijuana YES

Just saw a blurb on the morning news about Scotts / Miracle Grow pursuing sales growth in the medical marijuana field. I thought it was curious that a company with the most severe smoking ban (no smoking at work or at home for employees) would promote the use of their products to grow weed. Below are links to articles on the two subjects.

This is what I imagine every time I see companies going overboard with marketing schemes and promotions that say nothing about the quality, utility or aesthetic of the product being offered.   It’s likely close to the conversations that went on (go on?) at the investment firms and banks that created the real estate crisis . . . just substitute “sub-prime mortgage instruments” for “billing errors”.   I really wish honesty could trump greed more often . . .  I guess that’s what heaven and hell are for.

Am I the only one who is friggin’ tired of the shrill Michael Jackson “news” stories?  Granted, his death was unexpected, his life story one of professional triumph and personal sadness and bizarre  behavior.    BUT has he been in any way relevant for the last 15 years?  His musical genius was eclipsed by gradual descent into–what? mental illness?  paranoia?  physical excess?  pedophilia?  Whatever.  Mother Theresa got less press when she died.  It’s time to move on,  media guys.  He was an entertainer, not a saint.

(Oh good grief.  A local weatherman just announced that he’s been contacted  by some random woman viewer who went to a MJ concert back in the day and may provide some pictures for Fox 8 to post.  Aarrrggghh!)

On the other hand, I guess it’s good that, during all this Michael Jackson mania, there hasn’t been a report of any notable politician being caught  in  flagrante delicto.  That also is getting kinda old, dontcha think?

I’m done geezing for now.  Larry thinks I’m turning into a curmudgeon.
